DJ Lori B

Post Theme Song: Marry The Night, Lady Gaga

In Western Massachusetts the buzz of the November, 2011 election was the mayoral victory of Alex Morse over incumbent Elaine Pluta in Holyoke, MA. Hard work, positive campaigning and a vision for the city paved the way for the mayor elect

I’m excited and honored to be the musical hostess and DJ for Mayor Morse’s second inaugural event on January 15, 2012, at Open Square in Holyoke, MA. This is an open event for all ages.

The performance space in Open Square is quite beautiful with exposed brick, wood floors, high ceilings and the vibe of a SoHo New York nightclub. I’m going to enhance the room with concert up lighting, a premium sound system and additional dance floor effects to POP the space for over the 350 guests expected to attend.

If you are attending the event plan to hear: top 40 dance, popular remixes, mash-ups, latin, and a few old school drops.

I live in Holyoke. I support Holyoke. I am Holyoke.

I Can’t wait to ROCK THIS PARTY.  :)

Happy Holiday’s

Posted in Martini Events on December 9, 2011 by djlorib

It’s been a fabulous year for Martini Productions and DJ Lori B. I’ve met wonderful clients and rocked parties to the north, south, east and west.

The shift is on. It’s high holiday season and I’ll be dropping beats for seven events through the middle of January. I’m excited to DJ at some of my favorite reception/banquet facilities including: The Log Cabin, The Hotel Northampton, Castle of Knights and The Westwood Restaurant.

I love It :)

Below are two videos from recent events.

Each reception was a bit different in terms of traditional wedding events. The common theme for both: A packed dance floor with happy clients and their guests.

DJ Lori B is having fun. Enjoy :)

Boob Up

Updated October, 2011

Within the past 12 months, I have had a family member, my boss and a DJ colleague diagnosed with different forms of cancer. While The Rays Walk supports Breast Cancer, I will be walking and praying for my friends who are currently battling the disease. This years walk is on Sunday, October 23rd.

I’ve doubled my fundraising goal this year. After some thought, I think I may be on the low side. I’m confident I’ll get to my goal and actually surpass it. It’s for a great cause and I’m starting to dig in asking for boobie bucks.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Below is a re-post from 2010

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I recommend that the theme song be: I Touch Myself  by Divinyls. Self exams save lives and early detection is key to successful outcomes.

I’ve had ideas about this post in my head for a while but had trouble coming up with the title. One of my favorite sayings is “put the needle on the record” from the song “Pump Up The Volume” by M/A/R/R/S. I say it when I’m on a mission, excited and need an emotional surge to help me achieve goals.

I have two family members who are survivors of breast cancer: my step mother and aunt. Within the last 2 months a new corporate client shared her story with me and a friend and colleague that I work with recently had a lumpectomy. It’s time for DJ Lori B to get active.

I’m getting off the DJ dime to fully participate in this year’s Rays of Hope: A Walk Toward the Cure of Breast Cancer on October 24 in Springfield, MA. I’m really excited to shift from donator to both donator and doer.

I also like the idea of  keeping boobie bucks local. Funding which gets channelled through The Baystate Health Foundation stays in Western New England to help support patients and survivors.

The picture below is a tee-shirt that was sent to me from my Aunt Pat in Florida. She is a nurse practitioner who has a tremendous zeal for life and a crazy sense of humor. After 2 mastectomies and Tamoxifen therapy she is cancer free. She and her “special group of friends” designed the shirt which I plan to wear on the 24th.

The disease has affected many talented musical artists. It would be careless of me as a DJ and music lover not to recognize some of these artists.

Survivors: Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Olivia Newton-John, Kylie Minogue, Nanci Griffith and Carly Simon.

Non-Survivors: Linda McCarthy, Dusty Springfield, Doris Coley (member of The Shirelles) and Syreeta Wright. She sang with Billy Preston on the duet “With You I’m Born Again”.

Honorable Mention: Men account for close to 1% of all new breast cancer cases. Original KISS drummer and founding member Peter Criss is a survivor. The Cat Man Rocks.

Soldier On: Supporting our homeless vets

I’m honored and humbled to be an entertainment provider for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Northampton, MA. So far I’ve DJed three events this year with more to come for the holidays.

I just finished a fabulous outdoor event under the main pavilion where vets were treated to Italian fried dough, giveaways and ice cream sundaes courtesy of Friendly’s.

The VA provides care for over 225 vets (living on campus) who have various disabilities and medical issues. Numbers are off the charts for those seeking out patient services. Soldier On, located at the Northampton Campus is a separate entity from the VA. Their mission is to house homeless vets.

Five martini shakes for staff and volunteers (young and old) for organizing parties during the year that allow vets and their aids to enjoy events with fun food and good music. Double martini shakes for Anne Murray, Voluntary Services Officer for allowing me to be part of the hospitals  entertainment  programming.

Play lists have included: polkas, swing, disco, funk, classic rock, and popular oldies. When I see vets stomping their feet or bobbing their heads to the music, I know I’m on the right track.

For the record, my family is Marine heavy. My grandfather, father and brother served in the Marines. I’m alway’s faithful and ready to rock any type of event for our veterans.

Post Theme Songs:

Born In The USA: Bruce Springsteen

Soldier Boy: The Shirelles

Peace Train: Cat Stevens

Video Killed The Radio Star

Holy smokes it was a busy summer for DJ Lori B. Weddings, weddings and more weddings. All types: traditional, same sex and transgendered. A party is a party no matter who you are in the world.

I’m preparing to roll into the fall wedding season with events up and down the New England Coast. Love It.

:)

Below is a video of the last dance (Firework by Katy Perry) for Yuli & Greg. Over 120 guests attended their reception at the Hampden Country Club in Hampden, MA. The Dance floor was packed all night and I played popular party tunes from LMFAO, Usher, Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.

Where To See DJ Lori B-Summer 2011

I’m excited to DJ at Diva’s Nightclub in Northampton, MA, Saturday August 13, 2011. I’ll be playing a mix of mainstream dance club standards as well as classic dance from the 80′s on up.  I love Marya Veronica’s “Freak Like Me”;  total dance floor bomb. :)

Hot Fun In The Summertime

Posted in Style Down The Aisle on August 6, 2011 by djlorib

I don’t know what’s hotter, all the fabulous parties and receptions I’ve hosted so far or the really hot and humid temps in the northeast. DJ Lori B votes for the parties of course.

Gary & Kathy were married in a private ceremony on the village island of Islamorada located off the Florida Keys. About a month later they invited friends and family for a golf outing and party.

Gary & Kathy :)

Their event was held at The Grassmere Country Club in Enfield, Ct. It was my first time DJing at Grassmere.  The layout  is DJ friendly with plenty of space for equipment and lights. The staff was friendly and courteous.

The party kicked off right after dinner. Kathy provided me with a great playlist with a lots of variety. Motown, classic rock, top 40 dance, and disco. Gary is a country fan and I played a lot of songs by Keith Urban.

Mazel Tov: Seth & Craig

Posted in Martini Mitzvah's on July 12, 2011 by djlorib

Seth and Craig’s B’Nai Mitzvah was held at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA. Basketball was the theme of the event.

I love planning and coordinating grand entrances.  A well executed grand entrance sets the tone for the party and leaves a lasting impression for the guest/guests of honor.

This grand entrance was spectacular.  There are three levels at the Hall of Fame.  The boy’s made their entrance via a glass elevator which took them from the top floor to center court. I played a series of “jock jam” music as the boy’s descended.  When the doors opened, the boy’s shot out and slapped guests hands like basketball players being introduced at the start of a game.

Great Gifts: Seth and Craig’s mom, Ilene did an outstanding job with gifts for the younger guests as well as gifts for her boy’s.  Each young guest received a basketball jersey with their last name on the back.  Metal gym lockers with Seth & Craig’s name on them were her gifts to the boy’s.  Each locker was signed by all the guests attending the Mitzvah.  AWESOME.

Don’t Hide Your Pride

Posted in Martini Events on June 11, 2011 by djlorib

Every year I look forward to Pride weekend in Northampton, MA.
I usually DJ the early shift at Diva’s Night Club on Saturday after the Pride parade.

This year was a bonus for DJ Lori B. Not only did I DJ at Diva’s but I also hosted Out For Reel’s “After Party” which was on Friday night prior to Saturday’s festivities.  It was my third “After Party”, second at the Clarion in Northampton, MA.

From a DJ stand point both parties were outstanding. I played a wide range of music from the 70′s to current dance/top 40; Katy Perry, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Usher, Beyonce, J. Lo, BEP and more.

I entertained over 600 guests between the two parties. Both dance floors were full as people came together to celebrate their Pride. Awesome.

Paws For Pride
