Live Like You Were Dying

Posted in Style Down The Aisle on March 17, 2011 by djlorib

No, this is not a morbid post.

An interesting wedding trend is emerging. More and more wedding couples are having their events at funeral homes.

A recent USA Today article titled “Funeral homes find new life by hosting other events” focuses on The Community Life Center in Indianapolis. Across the USA funeral homes like The Community Life Center are rebranding their business to include names like event and community center. In addition, funeral homes are remodeling and expanding existing space to include banquet facilities, gardens, and patios.

Wedding chapels and banquet houses have closed due to the economy where as funeral homes are pretty much recession proof. The funeral industry is moving further away from “traditional” wakes and more toward personalized services that celebrate the living like weddings, proms, meetings and holiday parties.

Having an event at a funeral home may not be for everyone. If a wedding couple can look beyond the doors of sadness they can reap the benefits of a less expensive venue, greater availability and a setting that in general is tastefully decorated with plenty of amenities like limo’s, flowers, and a chapel.
